This blog will focus on how to update you Sony camera firmware to the latest release.
For: ILCE-7SM3 System Software (Firmware) Update Ver. 3.02
Important! You can’t update your camera directly from 2.15 or lower to direct 3.02
This will result in camera broke and it will never turn on back.

First check the firmware version on your camera
Turn on the camera and go to the Menu → Setup → Setup Option → Version.
If it’s 2.11 version then first update to 3.01 version

This is a file BODYDATA.DAT which you have to copy on the SD Card of your camera root folder. Use these simple steps to update.
- Fully Charge the battery of Sony Camera.
- Connect your camera or SD Card to PC/Mac and format the SD Card or delete every file and folder (Backup your data on other hard drive as you are going to lose all data).
- Copy BODYDATA.DAT file on the SD Card (Drag & Drop) – DO NOT CHANGE FILE NAME.
- Now insert the SD Card (SLOT 1) back in camera and turn it on.
- Select Menu → Setup → Setup Option → Version.
- Select Software Update.
- Select Execute
- Leave it for 10-15 minutes.
- Camera will flash unevenly and after 10-15 minutes it will display Body update complete.
Thank you for following this tutorial. Happy SONY.
